A Good Night

 Every once in a while we have a night that I want to relive over and over.  Tonight was one of those nights for our family.  My son Lincoln was asked to memorized the entire Gettysburg Address for his 2nd grade program (fitting that his name is Lincoln huh?)  Lincoln doesn't like being the center of attention and in the past when he has been asked to do speaking parts in things, he has usually turned them down.

He said yes to this speaking part, which surprised Josh and me.  He got the part at then end of January and has been working hard on memorizing it ever since.  Tonight he stood up in front of so many people and gave the Gettysburg Address perfectly.

I can't even tell you how nervous for and proud I was of him.  It was a moment I will remember forever.  This boy was just bursting with confidence after it was over and he felt like a million bucks.  As a mom, those moments when my kids do something hard, that they are nervous/scared to do are some of my favorites and tonight was one of those amazing nights.

We are heading out tomorrow for a fun weekend of skiing, snow shoeing, a sleigh ride and more skiing.  Its will be a fun mini vacation and I am so excited for it!

Old School

 If you have been a long time (or short time) reader of my blog you know how much I love school.  Most of my memories of school are good and every time I send my kids off to a new year I feel a little jealous.  Although I already have a Bachelor's degree, I still would like to go back and get a few more :)

Nautical Accent

 Hello everyone!  I hope that you had a lovely weekend.  Ours was full of a new snow fall, and a trip to Salt Lake for high tea.  It was a sweet surprise from Josh.  I had been wanting to do a hotel tea since we did one in Boston last year, and he was sweet enough to take me.  I love that he is willing to do stuff like that with me because he knows I love it.

 We went to the Grand America (so incredible) and sat by the fire facing a HUGE beautiful window to a courtyard and we watched it snow while we talked about our lives, our kids and our dreams...it couldn't have been better.  It was one of those memories that I know will be one of my favorites in years to come.

Oversized

 I once again have turned to Josh's closet for an outfit.  I really do love to wear his shirts and this one I have worn a few times...

 Today the sun was shining and for a few seconds I thought I smelled spring.  It could have been in my head, but the sun felt warmer and the air felt a little more fresh.

 I was telling our boys that ski season is coming to an end (in theory) and they were somewhat sad, and then I told them that golf season was coming and after that they seemed excited to move on to spring (as am I...)

Alright Bachelor fans, tonight I am catching up on The Bachelor.  Oh my goodness I just watched the "hometown dates" episode.  I am SO sad for Des.  I think he ditched her because of her horrible brother.

 The brother seems like one of those guys who is ready to take on any guy that crosses his path and was just trying to cause trouble.  Des was my FAVORITE, I am so sad.  I need to watch the "Sean Tells All" episode, I hear it is pretty good.

 And can we just say that Tiarra is the best thing that ever happened to this show?  She is HILARIOUS!  Honestly my favorite person ever on The Bachelor.  What are your thoughts (or are you all over The Bachelor...)?

Back in Black

 I really have been thinking spring thoughts as hard as I can, but the truth is, it is still winter and cold.  I have decided I still should be embracing my winter clothes...I guess I am accepting that winter will be hanging around here for a few more weeks/months, but that doesn't mean that I won't be trying to sneak my spring clothes in :)

Tonight Josh and I took our son Lincoln to the Outback Steakhouse.   Lincoln is doing a report on Australia and we try to do a fun activity if we can when our kids have a report.  I am not sure how "authentic" the Outback Steakhouse is, but it was a fun date and Lincoln felt like a million bucks.

I had to laugh though as we were leaving the restaurant and none of us had coats on.  It was sooooo cold but since it hasn't been nearly as cold as it had been in the past, we opted to leave our coats behind, which was totally crazy, but I guess it felt "warmish" to us.

The funny thing of the night was that once Josh got home we were in such a hurry to get out the door (as we had basketball games later that night), when we got to the restaurant Josh and I realized we had both put on the same shirt!  Luckily I had a sweater, but it didn't hide it very much.  We got some funny looks :)

The forecast here is cold and snow tomorrow.  I hope it is better where you are!

Hopeless Romantic

 Tonight I talked Josh into watching "Persuasion" with me (I didn't have to try too hard, he likes a good chick flick).  It is one of my favorite books (by Jane Austin if you are interested...).

 I have to say I just love the sweet romantic movies where the boys gets the girl and they fall in love.

 I especially love those movies that are set back in the day (Emma, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility).  I guess I just love a good, well thought out romance :)

Winter White

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day.  I really love this day as it is dedicated to showing those you love...that you love them!  It's Josh's birthday as well and the day that we got engaged 11 years ago.  So this day is a pretty big deal to our family.

...can I say that I was brave and tried winter white and I now know why in the past it has been a faux pas.  There is so much dirty snow that I couldn't keep them clean!  I didn't go with bright white, but with off white as I am still new at breaking these rules and I didn't want too much too soon ;)

One last picture, this was the little gift that I made for my boys' teachers for Valentine's Day.  They are little heart shaped cherry hand pies.  The cherry filling is SO GOOD.  Recipe found here.

Whimsy

 Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Today also happens to be my husband's birthday, so it is extra crazy for us around our house.

 Josh and I don't love going out on Valentine's Day into the crazy crowds, so we usually do a nice dinner at home and do something fun with our boys.  I hope that whatever you are doing, it is with people you love!

Black and White

 Today was my little cookie decorating party with my boys and some of their friends, and let me tell you...it was CRAZY!  I baked the heart cookies and set them out in straight lines on a tray everything was perfectly sitting on my cute little heart table cloth, AND then my boys and their friends came home from school and the rest was CHAOS!!

 Honestly boys DO NOT frost and decorate cookies like girls do (and I know this because my friend's daughter was there and she made cute Valentine cookies), they just put as much frosting and as many sprinkles as possible.  Then they ate as many of them as they could.  It definitely wasn't what I thought...Oh well, I love my boys and I love parties so I guess I will continue planning them even though they aren't...ideal :)  The tea part on Saturday should be interesting.

Valentine Prep

 I have to be honest...I am currently exhausted (on a side note, please ignore my horrible bangs I am trying to grow out and can rarely do anything with them).  I think the term "bit off more than I could chew" would definitely apply.  I can't even tell you everything thing I am trying to plan/get ready for and when I get this overwhelmed I just want to sit down and do nothing...which definitely wouldn't be helpful.

 Valentine's Day is a pretty wild holiday for our family as it is my husband's birthday and I tend to go overboard on holidays as a general rule.  This week we are celebrating my husband's birthday week with all of the things he loves.  I like that idea because it is a bit hard to share your birthday with another holiday.

I am also planning a Valentine's tea on Saturday (so excited for that one) with my boys and some cousins and a little Valentine's day cookie decorating party tomorrow with the boys and some friends.  I just can't resist a party or fun idea, but honestly...its a bit much this year.  At least I can admit it, I think my husband would be proud :)

 These are the Valentine's that I made for my boys this year.  I always like to make my boys' valentines and thanks to Pinterest there are good ideas all over the place (Valentine's from years past here, here).  The things they are holding like "light sabers" are glow bracelets.  I think its probably okay if we forgo the candy this year.
