Sweet Serendipity

After reading the definition of serendipity on Dictionary.com (which I actually spend more time on than I would like to admit), I will sum it up as a "fortunate accident," or something good that happened when you weren't expecting it.

My husband and I have been looking for a new entertainment center lately because he has decided that we needed a bigger TV, and in all honesty, we did need a new TV as ours is so old and the color has serious issues. Let us just say people on it have purple faces and green hair (not that attractive when you aren't an oompa loompa). Not to mention my 2 year old totally thinks that Lightening McQueen is blue.

Well, we have been looking and looking forever for an entertainment center!! I had to have doors on it that closed so we could protect it from flying footballs and games of "keep away" that are frequent when one has 4 boys.

We looked for months. Nobody seemed to sell entertainment centers that were the armoire style for that big of a TV. Finally we stopped looking and decided to have someone build it. Wouldn't you know it his life got super busy the second we had our first meeting with him and we had been waiting 2 weeks just to get a big.

In the mean time I had stopped looking around for an entertainment center until last night I was getting a bit exasperated with this process and decided to look online again and guess what. Serendipitously we found the EXACT entertainment center that I had told this guy I wanted him to build for way cheaper than he could have built it!!!!

We picked it up tonight and it is beautiful! I love with when that happens. You know when you see something you LOVE and that one time that they have it in your size and it happens to be on sale. Best feeling ever.

Another moment of serendipity happened when I fell in love with the peplum look and found it in my closet!! Who would guess I would already have a new trend.

I had sort of forgotten about this top and loved pulling it out for a (lately very rare), warm day. I am also debuting my sandals that I LOVE. When I was a little girl the older cool girls wore these. I always wanted a pair so a few years ago when I found them at Esprit I had to get them. And I don't know if I will ever stop loving them. It's sort of like a first love, only it was a first fashion love. I'll probably be 99 and still wearing them :)

I also fell in love with this style of purse when I was in 9th grade and my friend brought one back from a trip to Mexico. I looked for one for years without any luck and guess what??? They are back!! I need one!!

Pink and Navy

I was tempted to name this week "Pink and Navy Week". I was looking through my outfit pictures and I think I might be a bit obsessed with that color combination. Just expect a lot of these colors in the future :)

I also think you might be seeing a lot of these little boat shoes. They seriously go with everything and I love them!

I bought some new sunnies the other day ($6 at Ross) and thought it would be so great to have two different pairs of sunglasses for shoots. On the day I bought them, my two year old broke the other pair...the 3rd pair he has broken in a few months (now you know why I am thrilled at $6 sunglasses!) It is seriously a good thing he is cute!

Dress Restyle

I recently restyled an older dress that I had in my closet and loved the results so I decided to try doing it to another dress. I LOVE this dress that I got for Easter last year from Shabby Apple (Well, it was FROM my husband, but bought it from Shabby Apple :) I have always loved the skirt on it and decided that it needed some time in the lime light.

I love green and navy together and have paired them quite a few times.

I love Shabby Apple dresses (have you entered the giveaway yet?) This one is so feminine and I love the fabric they made it out if (I probably shouldn't even post it because they don't have it anymore, but I ADORE it and had to share it with you :).

I also have been loving navy, pink and yellow together, so I thought it needed to be put together. I was totally digging it :)

This really has been a week of dresses for me. I guess I really like em :) I just think they are so cool and feminine when it is warm out...and I really like em.

This skirt is everything that I would love in a maxi skirt. It is totally on the wish list!

Oh how I love this outfit (including the lovely shoes and socks). I'd wear the whole thing top to bottom.

This swimsuit is AMAZING! Might need to have it (I won't tell you that I own like 25 swimming suits...)

Mixing it Up

Once upon a time I was a "sales rep" for a clothing company called "Layers." I LOVED their clothes and would buy lots of them with the pretense that I was going to sell them to others (I like to think that I really did have the intention of selling them). I am sure you are guessing who I really sold them to...yep, myself. I think I may have made 3 sales the whole time I did it. My husband and I have since learned (after I did the same thing with Mary Kay), that I am not good at sales and should at all costs avoid it. I just have such a hard time feeling like I am pressuring people or making them feel uncomfortable.

Well, while in the service of Layers I bought this cute little dress above. I don't really wear it any more and was thinking maybe I should give it to the D.I. (Utah thrift store). Then I took a good critical look at it, I really did like the bottom of it. The colors were fun and interesting and it would make a great SKIRT (I may have it altered into one eventually).

I am a firm believer that your closet is a great place to go shopping. Everyone, even you (yes you) has hidden gems in there that they have over looked and if they just mixed them up a little they might re-fall in love with them.

After remixing this little number up with a different top and jewelry I really love it again! Not to mention it is so fun to see my clothes look new again and different from the way I have worn them in the past.

On a different subject (this blog really is just one big tangent after another) my 8 year old participated in his first Pine Wood Derby (where they get a car kit and build and decorate it) tonight. He and my husband built it together and was cute to see them work on it. His car ended up holding the record for the fastest time for the whole night. I am shamlessly proud of him!

It was so cute to watch him get so excited about it (and I have to admit, the hubs was pretty excited too.) I love to watch my kids have victories in their lives. It was a good night.

Thank You Sperry Much

I know, totally lame blog post title, but you have no idea how I struggle with those! It really does have to do with this post :) I have the cutest sweetest husband. He really does try to understand the fashion world and what I love about it, but frankly...it just isn't his thing :) I had told him that would like to get a pair of Toms and some Sperrys for summer.

We gave each other Easter baskets this year and inside mine (besides yummy Caramel Cadbury Eggs that I am already missing and dreaming about for next year...) was a note that said "Tom's, Sperry's are they the same thing??" He laughed a sheepish little laugh as I read the note. I don't care if he gets fashion or not, but I do love that he is okay with me loving it :)

So I happily spent the next little while perusing the Tom and Sperry sites and ended up getting some black Toms and these hot little leopard print Sperrys.

I have to admit I love them like nobody's business (and my husband for "getting them" for me :) They have clear sequins on them and shimmer a bit. Love it!

So you all need to know that my husband has just won the "Husband of the Year" award and it isn't just for his willingness to buy me shoes but his sweetness and consideration. The fact that when I went to the ballet all day with a friend, I came home to a sparkling clean house and happy boys because Dad had taken such good care of them. He also does the dishes every night without being asked and says cute things about how much he loves me all of the time. I have to say, I really am lucky!

Polished

I bought some nail polish on Saturday. Do you want to know a funny thing about it? I haven't worn nail polish in years!! I even threw most of my nail polish away because I had heard a rumor that nail polish goes "bad." I figured it was about 10 years old and if any polish was bad, it was. Is that true? Does nail polish go bad???

I had some friends that kept it in the fridge when I was growing up because it helped it stay "good" longer. Wow, maybe the maintenance is why I never have worn it.

I have been totally intrigued with all of the fun colors that have been coming out. I bought some cheapy nail polish from Ross to try it out and see if I liked it...well, I did! Love it!

I have to admit I am possibly the worst nail polish apply-er in the world, it isn't that great, but I really like it!

I have already chipped it in a couple of places, but oh well. I like it :)

The color I got was a fun pale pink. I now need to get some more colors, I think I have a new fetish!

Pink

My favorite color is pink, always has been. The funny thing about my love for pink however is that I never wear it. I don't even have very much pink clothing. No idea why because I really do love it.

I think I need to buy more because it always lifts my mood when I am wearing pink. It really is such a happy lovely color. Yep, my favorite :) Now if I could get one of my boys to do his room in pink, I have a million ideas ;)

A Cold Front

My post titles are starting to be more like weather reports. I can't tell you how hard it is some times to come up with titles for my posts, so I guess the crazy weather is a blessing as it provides me ample words like cold, rainy and wet for title posts :)

From what I have read on other blogs, Utah isn't the only place that has had crazy weather. I have to admit, for me, cooler weather clothes are a bit more fun. I really do want summer to come, but I am still okay with a cold day now and again, it keeps things interesting :)

I have to be honest my white trench doesn't see as much action as I am sure it is wishing it did (what trench doesn't want to see a lot of action). It is just because the fact it is white. I will remind you that I have 4 lovely and very cute boys but boys love dirt, and my 2 year old loves sticky. So alas, this baby spends a lot of days in the closet. But this day, it was taken on a field trip (I am sure it was thrilled about it).

My top is actually a light powder blue...but the sun is a little bright and washed it out :)

The biggest challenge of spring time is to not be totally freezing in the morning and roasting in the afternoon. That is what happened on this day :)

I am sure this trench has a few more field trips to look forward to this spring :)
