Halloween 2012

I was planning on a style post, but it is late and it isn't even edited instead I will leave you with a couple of pictures from Halloween today.  It was so fun and so busy, we just ran from one thing to the next.
Our oldest 3 boys had a Halloween parade at school as well as parties in their classes.  I helped out at 2 of them.  We went to Josh's work Halloween party and then finally to our family Halloween party.

My mom is a Halloween nut and I LOVE it.  I have so many fun memories from growing up where my mom made Halloween such a fun time.  One time she dressed up as a witch complete with green face, blacked out teeth and a wart on her nose, and she read us "spooky" stories.  She was always so fun.  Now she always does a FUN Halloween party.
We trick or treated (of course), went bowling with a pumpkin for a ball, and best of all, bobbed for apples.  Each of the boys were able to get an apple, which I was way impressed with.

I loved all of the costumes the boys picked this year.  McKay adores Mickey Mouse so he was so excited for this little costume, although he was a bit afraid of it. Lincoln was normal Harry Potter last year and Quiditch Harry Potter this year (what can he say, he likes Harry Potter :)  Palmer had a book report for school where he had to dress up as a character from a book he had read.  He read one about Babe Ruth so that is who he dressed up as for Halloween and he gave his book report to his class today as Babe Ruth, Hunter was the cutest police officer ever. He pretty much picked the costume because he wanted to handcuffs that came with it :)

Josh and I were "Where's Waldo" if you can't tell.  I kept laughing that ANYONE ever has a hard time finding that guy, the costume was SO loud, you couldn't miss us!!

It was yet another wonderful Halloween for our family!  I hope you all had a wonderful and safe day as well!

Houndstooth...Lots of It!!

Happy Halloween everyone!  I am posting this on Halloween Eve, but most of you will read it on Halloween so again I say...Happy Halloween!  The weather hear has been BE.AU.TI.FUL!  Honestly despite the crazy snowstorm we had last week, this week has been perfectly warm and wonderful.
I wanted to wear boots with this, but it was so warm, I thought I'd go with these red flats.
Have I ever told you how much I love houndstooth.  I adore it along with tweed and herringbone.  I think I'd just alternate between the three every day if I could (in the autumn anyway).
Today while the older boys were at soccer practice, the younger two and I played in the leaves.  They were so crunchy and perfect.  I think they liked them :)

Now I need to go finish making 30 more of these babies for my boys school classes tomorrow.  They are gumballs that are supposed to look like a  Jack-o-lantern.  Hopefully they do :)

Double Denim

As Halloween gets closer I continue to check off my bucket list of October things to do.  Today I made caramel apples.  For years I have attempted to make caramel apples with homemade caramel and it has never worked.  Mostly it has turned into a huge, gloppy, caramelly mess.  One of my favorite friends offered to teach me how to do it properly today and guess worked!!
Look at those lovely apples, and they tasted pretty awesome too.  My boys were pretty excited to come home to this after school snack.

Tonight I have been reading all of the news of Hurricane Sandy back east.  It is so surreal to see the same places I visited weeks ago eerily empty.  My heart and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected!

Pre-Halloween Weekend

Hey everyone!  Hoping that you all have had a lovely pre-Halloween weekend, full of parties, pumpkin carving, football games and hot chocolate.
We went to a few parties that were all so much fun. It was fun to get dressed up in the costumes and Josh is definitely being a good sport with this years costume.
The boys were thrilled to go to our neighborhood Halloween party.  My cute friend plans it every year (and we were so glad that the weather cleared up, although it was pretty cold).  The kids go to different stations for games and crafts and end up at a huge treat bar!  It was a good time.
I was in charge of one of the stations and decided to do a craft.  We made these creepy little critters.
And this was my contribution to the treat boys thought it was pretty great :)
All in all it was a lovely pre-Halloween weekend.  I am excited for this coming week.  Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays.  Tomorrow I am learning how to make gourmet caramel apples (with the caramel from scratch...yum) and I couldn't be more excited!!

Lunch Date

Josh and I used to try to go on dates once a week.  Now that our kids are older, and our lives are busier, Friday night date night doesn't happen very much.  We have now begun going on lunch dates once a week while the kid are at school (although we always have a 2 year old side kick with us).
I have to admit I am pretty sure that Josh loves it when I ask him to take outfit pictures at the end of our lunch, doesn't every guy love that on their dates?

And the snow that was threatening from yesterday's post?  Yep, it happened.  This is what we woke up to this morning.  I have to say, it was beautiful and perfect and...I wasn't sad when it melted in the afternoon (only to snow again later).

Our little neighborhood is doing a Halloween party tomorrow for the kids and it really would be nice if there was no snow!  I guess we will keep our fingers crossed!

Snow in the Forecast

Today was cold and rainy and perfectly autumn.  The bad thing however is that there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow.  The problem with this here state of that we have about 19 days of fall...okay give or take a few, but it jumps from autumn to winter WAY too quickly.
I ADORE layering, but don't always love to layer of a coat...although I do love a cute coat, but sweaters and jackets are my favorite :)
So I am hoping that it doesn't snow tomorrow or at least holds off until after Halloween or maybe after Thanksgiving.  In a perfect world it would snow the first day of December and leave after January (we have to have a little ski/sledding time).  Well, thanks for listening/reading to the rant of the day :)

The Jury's Still Out

While I was in New York I went shopping at a 4 story Forever 21.  It was awesome and I was in love with everything.  I have been loving all of the floral pants I have seen on so many cute style blogs right now and I stumbled across these.  I thought they would be not as bold as they are black and was I wrong.  They are bold xs 10!  In fact the they are called "Bold Floral Denim Skinnies."
If any of you have been around a while on this blog, you probably have noticed that my style is pretty classic.  I really wanted to go out on a limb here with these, but I just feel like my lower half is screaming "look at me," while I am wearing them. And I am also having flash backs of my moms friends in their Hawaiian printed capris that made their lower half look pretty large..

It might be a case of me being somewhat of a fashion wimp.  I am trying to branch out here, but the jury is still out...

Covered Buttons

Josh and I recently watched the movie "Charade," with Audrey Hepburn.  It is "Halloween-ish" in my book because I am somewhat of a wimp.  The ultimate Halloween movie for me however, is "Wait Until Dark" also starring  lovely Audrey and it actually is pretty intense.  Anyway, in this movie Charade, Audrey wears the most incredible wardrobe, all designed by Hubert de Givenchy and all absolutely amazing.
I adore 60s fashion and it is pretty much thanks to Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.  So when I saw the covered buttons on this sweater, I was head over heels.
Every time I wear it I feel a little Audrey, a little Jackie, which always makes for a good day.
Now all I need is a pill box hat...

Weekend Full of Fall

We have had so much going on lately that we really haven't done a whole lot of anything fall.  This past weekend I tried to cram in as much as I could in the way of fall celebrationing.  We went to pumpkin walks, football games, Halloween witch displays and even the Salt Lake City Cemetery (it is so spooky and gorgeous at the same time.  We hunted for prominent Utahns graves, so I guess it was educational too...we do it every Halloween.  I love it).
Not only did we have a lot of fun this past weekend we ate some seriously good food.  We had caramel apples, yummy gourmet hot chocolate and I made homemade doughnuts.  My mom has made them every Halloween forever and I now make them with my family too.  It is one of my favorite traditions.
So I am finally feeling like we have caught up a little bit with Halloween.  My costume finally came in the mail.  I am curious to know how many people dress up out there.
My husband is a pretty good sport about dressing up, but it isn't his favorite.  My family has a big Halloween party every year and everyone goes all out.  Josh and I have always tried to get away with as little as possible.  Like that one year that we dressed up as "stage crew" and wore all black and then one year Josh was a paparazzi also wearing all black.  We have come up with some random ones in order to get out of dressing up, but finally last year we embraced it and went as Mary Poppins and Burt.  It was one of our better ones.  This year is pretty mellow, but I am still excited about it!  What are you going to be?

Fall Break

Today and tomorrow are Fall Break from school for my kids.  We have been so absorbed in sports for these past weeks that we really haven't done very many things on ourAutumn Bucket List yet.  We have all sorts of plans over the next two days.
Today we went to a fun dinosaur museum.  The last time we went there my kids were so little and just wanted to run around.  It was fun to see them get excited this time to learn about dinosaurs.
We went with some of our favorite friends who we haven't seen for a while.  The boys were excited to see one of their buddies again.
My and my posse.  These boys are so cute and really are so fun to be with.  This picture makes me laugh, I don' think they were ready :)
We were honestly in boy heaven.  Theywere interested in everything and loved it all (um...isn't that shark freaky)?
And of course we couldn't leave without a little treat :)
