Ascot Me...

Do you remember when you were a little girl and you would watch your mom get dressed up for church or a fancy night out and thought she was the most beautiful thing in the world and you couldn't wait until you were a grown up and you could dress just like her? (My mom always dressed so classy, I loved it and it totally affected my taste).  Or you would notice the other women around you and see the different things they wore and you couldn't wait until you were just old enough to pull it off.  When I was young I longed to wear high heels, but couldn't bring myself to feel comfortable in them until I was about 24...it took me a while, but now I love love love high heels.  Another trend I deeply loved was The Ascot.  This was a trend that I thought was ULTRA classy when I was young.
When I was about 13 I was listening to a motivational speaker and she was dressed so elegantly in a tailored suit sporting the most divine ascot and I thought, "one day that will be me".  Well...I have never felt comfortable wearing it.  I think it always felt to old for me.  I have tried my best, but would always take it off.  Well, the second I saw Emma Pillsbury wear her first Ascot-ed blouse I prayed that the trend would catch, and it did!  Ascot blouses are everywhere and I am THRILLED about it!  Anything worn by the divinely dressed Emma Pillsbury is okay by me (I actually don't watch Glee, but I look here and here to see what they wore...their wardrobe department is phenomenal!)
The fun thing is that you don't have to have an ascot blouse to wear this look. You can do it with a scarf or even better a silk sash that you have held onto for a few years that you used to wear as a belt (I have a few of these...)but will now be wearing as an ascot!!!
I saw this outfit on this adorable blog the other day and thought "my ascot moment has arrived!"  I couldn't wait to replicate her entire look as I thought it was divine.
I think it is such a fun way to dress up an classic look or add a pop of color to an outfit.
I love this feminine look and will probably be wearing it often.  So I am now 34 years old and I finally feel like a grown up :)
Blouse: Loft | Sequin Tank: Jcrew | Jeans: Nordstrom | Heels: Aldo | Jewelry: Jcrew | Ascot: No idea :) Sunnies: Banana Republic Outlet

P.S. Tomorrow is my last day of my goal to not wear stripes for a week.  I am pretty impressed/amazed I did it.  Just in time because I just got a new striped blazer in the mail!!!

  3. Yay for being brave enough to wear an ascot!! I love tie-neck blouses and they do give off an older, classy feel. And it totally works on you. And speaking of the high heels, my mom never wore them, but I wear them all the time, and my 2 year old son actually likes to put mine on. It's so cute and it's hard not to laugh when he wears them. LOL! <3
